A Letter from PLPR’s President, Prof. Rebecca Leshinsky

Thank you for being part of PLPR. I was fortunate to attend the inaugural meeting in Amsterdam in 2007,as a PhD student, and have never looked back.

As your new President, it is my intention to continue the wonderful work Thomas put in over the past four years so that PLPR conferences continue to attract new and established members. These conferences raise cutting edge issues in planning law and property rights that help shape new ideas and processes. With much uncertainty from global climate conditions, economic and social upheaval, the themes raised at PLPR are now closer to home. Therefore, it is important that a group like ours meets regularly to discuss pressing concerns in a harmonious and inclusive setting.

Together with the ExCo 2024 – Andreas, Nir, Yifat, Josje, and Tristan, and the supportive international liaisons, Safira, Ed, Ellen, Linda, Sina, and John, past PLPR Presidents, Rachelle, Ben and Dick, and mentors, PLPR is powering forward, in a stimulating and inclusive manner. We have two wonderful PLPR conferences to look forward to as well as more regional interim meetings. We also intend to strengthen our liaisons with AESOP, ALPS, and other intersectional associations.

My own goals for PLPR are ambitious, yet necessary, for all PLPR members:

  • To commence work on the global comparative planning law dictionary
  • To set up more discourse and initiatives among members for comparing planning law and property rights
  • Spark greater discussion on global comparative land valuation themes.

Working groups on all three themes are commencing soon and I will keep you updated on progress.

Please stay connected with PLPR, for much happens in between conferences.

We are now on LinkedIn, so please join us here.

Please also email Nir, the editor of PLPR’s monthly newsletter, news, stories or flyers regarding your involvement in relevant meetings or new publications

I look forward to seeing you soon and especially at PLPR 2025 Cardiff and PLPR 2026 Atlanta.

In the meantime, I welcome your suggestions, so please be in touch anytime.
